Newy Tees update: April 2025
Share
It's been a slow start to this project, but there's been definite progress. I've seen shirts on the streets and I'm up to nine designs in the store. Just posting a quick update to lay out my upcoming plans for Newy Tees:
New photos
At the moment, all the shirts have placeholder images provided by the printing company. They're okay, but not ideal.
I arranged a photographer and some models to get some more realistic images up, but that's been postponed due to this awful spell of weather. Fingers crossed things clear up soon and I can get those up.
More T-shirt designs
After trying to handle the designs myself, I quickly realised things would be a lot better if I worked with local creatives. You can see the results in the great designs by Rae Narraway (Jets 2008 and BHP veterans) and Lochie Vardy (Mark Twain quote and Rathmines seaplane).
I've got three more designs commissioned with another designer who was born and raised in Newcastle. Two of these bring history back to life: the world map at the canoe pool by Newcastle Baths and the double decker buses of the 60s and 70s (popular around Toronto and other areas). The third will be a slightly silly take on a landmark in Redhead.
Extra content
As well as the new photos, I want to start writing more on here. I'll start by showcasing the talents of the designers, photographers and all the other incredible people helping with the shirts. Want to know what else Rae and Lochie do? What they love about Newcastle? Keep an eye out on the site and on our socials.
