BHP was the pumping heart of Newcastle for so long. The steelworks opened in 1915 and was a community to many until it closed its doors in 1999. At its peak, it employed 12,000 but over its time in Newy it would have employed thousands and thousands more.
If you, your father or your grandfather worked at the BHP Steelworks in Newcastle, then this could be the perfect way to celebrate the hours spent there.
